On October 3, 2004 Fayetteville-Manlius High School Art Teacher, Len Eichler, traveled to Tokyo, Japan as a participant in the Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program. Mr. Eichler was one of 600 K-12 teachers and administrators invited each year to study the Japanese Education system. The FMF Program seeks to promote friendship and greater understanding between the people of Japan and the United States. The FMF Teacher Program was established by the Japanese Government in 1996 on the 50th anniversary of the Fulbright Program. Senator William Fulbright established the Fulbright exchange scholar program in 1946 in order to promote greater understanding between all nations of the world. The FMF Teacher Program is administrated by the Japan - United States Educational Commission.
The album below features only a small sampling of the many photos Mr. Eichler took during his travels in Japan. Mr. Eichler's primary goal was to research art education in Japan. Upon his return, Mr. Eichler has given numerous presentations about his experiences to educators, students and the general public. See the Tea Ceremony and Feudal Japan interdisciplinary unit for more information on the traditional arts of Japan.
