Completed Raku-style Student Tea Bowls

April 22, 2005

Illustrated below are examples chosen from approximately 50 bowls made during the Feudal Japan interdisciplinary unit conducted by Global Studies Teacher, Mark McGuigan, English Teacher, Carolyn Holmes and Art Teacher, Len Eichler. Mr. Eichler, who recently returned from a Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program tour of Japan, funded by the government of Japan, introduced students to the History of the Tea Ceremony "Cha-no yu" and the History of Raku tea bowls. The students later used their tea bowls in an abbreviated tea ceremony that was demonstrated Mr. Eichler and Mr. McGuigan.
