7th & 8th Grade Orchestra - Mrs. Darvill, director
 Welcome to 7/8  Grade Orchestra!

Welcome to what should be an exciting and rewarding year!  I am happy to have all of you in the orchestra program and look forward to having you in my class.  In order for our orchestra to be successful, listed below are the expectations for participation in this class.

CLASS PARTICIPATION & EXPECTATIONS

  • Orchestra is a class as is math, science, etc.  Class participation and preparation is essential if you are to succeed.  Class participation is more than just coming to class and playing your instrument.  You must be involved!  Ask questions, mark your music, raise your hand to answer questions, etc...show me that you are interested in learning about the music and the material presented.
  • Being prepared for class is essential!  You must come to class with your Journal, instrument and part practiced.  If you are unprepared for class, you will take notes which will be mailed home.

LESSONS

  • Lessons make up the majority of your grade each semester.  You will be scheduled for a lesson once a week in a small group or chamber ensemble.  Students are expected to practice regularly throughout the week in order to apply the concepts taught in the lesson.  When a student does not practice, it will hinder the entire lesson group's progress.  Coming prepared means much more fun and exciting music to learn.
  • Being responsible for your lessons...it is your responsibility to notify your classroom teacher the day before your lesson so that you may receive any worki that may be assigned and turn in any assignments that may be due.  This shows your teachers that you are taking responsibility for the work and they will respect you a GREAT deal for it!
  • Lesson attendance is VERY important!  You will be excused from lessons only for the following reasons: Midterm exam, final exam, lesson that cannot be duplicated in class or absence from school.

REQUIRED PERFORMANCES

  • Concert attendance is a requirement for participation in this class.  If you do not attend a concert, it will affect your ability to successfully fulfill the requirements for the course.  If there is an emergency or you are sick from school, you will be offered a concert makeup date where you will perform for me and/or be given a written assignment to complete for me.  Concert dates are listed on our website and are posted in the orchestra room.
  • Concert Dress
    • Boys - Black dress pants, white shirt, black socks, black shoes and black bow tie.  Bow ties may be ordered through the school.  A notice will be sent home regarding bow tie orders.
    • Girls - Long black skirt, white top, black shoes OR black dress pants, white top, black shoes.
