Aboriginal Rain Sticks

Students studied the history of Aboriginal people of Australia, and their use of rain sticks.  Students formed tubes with holes poked for craft sticks and glue creating areas for beans to flow through.  Paper mache was used to cover the craft sticks, and seal the tubes.  Dried beans and rice were poured and sealed into the stick to create the sound of falling rain.  The Aboriginal people created paints by using natural colors found in nature (brown, white, yellow, red) to decorate their rain sticks.  We used our own symbols to create decoration on the outside of our rain sticks for something we wished for.
