Math Curriculum » First Grade
In first grade, math instructional time focuses on: 1) developing strategies for adding and subtracting numbers within 20; 2) developing an understanding of number relationships and place value for numbers to 99; 3) developing basic understanding of measurement of length using common objects of the same length; 4) recognizing and knowing the value of coins; 5) telling time to the half hour; 6) understanding and showing simple data; and 7) exploring 2D and 3D shapes.
The math curriculum is aligned with the NY State Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics. Daily instruction is based on TERC Investigations in Number, Data, and Space program.
