All About Us!

We welcome students to visit the library to read, study, check out books, and research topics.  Our library holds approximately twenty thousand books, two thousand audio-visual items, and we subscribe to twenty-five periodicals.  The library is open from 8 am to 3:30 pm when school is in session.  Students may come in individually during study halls, free time, or during activity period between 2:50 and 3:30.  Classes visit the library for research,  projects, reading, and book talks throughout the year.

Borrowing

Students may borrow up to five library books at a time.  Books and audio books can be checked out for two weeks.  The videos, DVDs, and magazines are circulated for two days.   Staff check outs are unlimited.  Due dates are placed in the back of checked out materials.  Overdue notices are distributed periodically throughout the year in homerooms.  While there are no fines for late returns, students are encouraged to be respectful with library materials and other students who would like to use them. Books that are lost or damaged must be paid for by the end of the year.

Inter-Library Loan

Sometimes, our library may not carry a particular book that is of interest to a student or teacher.  Through inter-library loan, many resources can be obtained within a short amount of time.  Inter-library loan books should be returned promptly by the date noted on the date due card.

The Library Web Site

The library web site also has links to the online research tools such as Newsbank, World Book Encyclopedia and Grolier Encyclopedia Online, TeachingBooks, and many others.  These online resources are geared for student use, are appropriate and interesting, and free from advertisements.  For at home use, most require a password; bookmarks with passwords are available in the library.

Students can also check the catalog for a book and the catalogs of other libraries in the district through the web site.  The web site also has many informative and interesting links for research, homework help, book lists, and other activities.
