About the Show!

Improvisational comedy meets a comedy of errors in this Commedia dell’Arte classic that no one in 2014 has ever heard of. Lovers quarrel. Hotheads fight. A live band booms. 1753 isn’t a year most people feel is steeped in comedy, but you won’t leave the theater without your mind being blown.

One of the few high schools offering its own improvisational club, there aren’t many kids that can pull this show off. Improv started in the 1500s in Italy, with traveling theater troupes performing Commedia dell’Arte. Stock characters wearing half-masks would move across Europe with standard scenarios and plays that would be acted out. At different points in the play, seasoned actors would insert comedy bits to wow the audience, only to move on to the scripted piece moments later.

Have you heard of the Second City? Saturday Night Live? The Upright Citizens Brigade? It all started on the roads of Italy. Don’t miss an opportunity to see something that they won’t soon forget.

Donate? For what?

Maybe you can't make it to see The Servant of Two Masters, but you want to show your support.

Maybe you love the fact that FM Thespian Troupe #98 offers performance opportunities throughout the school year, and want to see even more in the future.

Maybe you have bags of cash laying around, and aren't sure what to do with them.

Whatever the case, purchasing a "ticket" from the Thespian Troupe #98 Donation Page is a terrific way to allow Troupe #98 more opportunities to bring the performing arts to Fayetteville-Manlius High School.  We use what we make from the fall play to offer opportunities for students throughout the year. But we want to begin doing more. Bringing in performing artists; taking trips to see professional theatre; presenting guest artists who can speak to their craft. There's so much we can accomplish, but we could use your help.

So, select a seat and buy a ticket. Heck, buy as many as you want. Our goal is to sell out "Sunday's Phantom Show" and do something amazing with the proceeds. And when we do, we'll let you know exactly where your donation went.

Thanks for your support,

David Engel and Thespian Troupe #98
