Update: A message regarding a Wellwood social media post

Update: A home visit was made by school administration and the school information resource officer (SIRO). The SIRO conducted a thorough threat assessment and secured the student’s cell phone as evidence.

It appears the threat was posted to social media over a week ago, but was not reported to school administration until yesterday, May 23. Officials do not believe the threat was credible.

Earlier today, May 23, Fayetteville-Manlius School District officials were made aware of a social media post that referred to a non-specific threat to Wellwood school safety.

Despite the general nature of the threat, we take such matters very seriously. The district has been in contact with the Town of Manlius Police Department and the incident is being investigated by both law enforcement and school officials.

Please encourage your child to report any perceived threat to the appropriate authorities or a  school administrator. We take any threats to our school community very seriously and we will continue to respond, investigate and take swift appropriate action to address each threat. Our number one priority is to provide a safe, positive learning environment for our students.

Thank you for your continued support. It is with your help by sharing information about possible disruptions on campus and talking with your students that we can become aware of potential safety concerns and take proper action.
