As part of Onondaga County’s strategy to limit the spread of COVID-19 within schools, the county completed asymptomatic COVID-19 testing at each Fayetteville-Manlius School District school this week. Of the 333 tests administered across the district, results yielded no positive cases.
“We appreciate the county’s commitment to supporting school districts in our efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our schools so that we can remain open for in-person instruction for those families who want their children physically in our school buildings,” Superintendent Craig J. Tice said.
Testing was voluntary and registration was required. On Jan. 14, the county conducted a total of 112 tests at Wellwood Middle School and Fayetteville Elementary School, and on Jan. 15, the county completed a total of 221 tests at the district’s other four schools.
Remote students and symptomatic individuals were not tested as the county is looking to identify individuals in school settings who may be unaware that they have the virus. Remote students and symptomatic individuals interested in being tested may contact their health care provider or visit this website to find a testing location.
