On Wednesday, Nov. 2, a group of Wellwood Middle School sixth-grade students were finishing a weekly before-school Faith Formation class at Immaculate Conception in Fayetteville when a visibly confused community member entered the Faith Formation classroom and did not immediately comply when asked to exit the classroom.
The community member did not interact with students and at no time during the occurrence were students left unsupervised. The Faith Formation instructor immediately ushered students to the school bus boarding area and helped them safely board the bus for Wellwood, which arrived at school on schedule.
The individual exited the classroom without incident a few minutes later and left the Immaculate Conception campus on foot.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Town of Manlius Police Department, who is familiar with the individual, was notified of the incident. The district’s School Information Resource Officers who are assigned to the Wellwood/Fayetteville Elementary campus were also notified to ensure the safe arrival of the Fayetteville Elementary and Wellwood students.
The school schedule was not affected by the incident.
