District updates face covering guidelines

To align with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) evolving guidelines for mitigating the spread of COVID-19, Fayetteville-Manlius School District officials recently revised a section of the district’s 2021-22 school reopening plan.

Effective Oct. 6, F-M’s plan states that masks made of mesh or lace material are not acceptable face coverings for school and should not be worn on campus (including while riding on the bus) by F-M students, staff members and essential building personnel.

At all times masks are worn, they must cover the nose and mouth, and must be secured under the chin in accordance with CDC guidelines. Homemade sewn masks and surgical masks are permissible.

Acceptable face coverings have two or more layers of fabric, secure with ear loops or ties and fit snugly against both sides of the face. Individuals without an acceptable face covering will receive one from the school district prior to boarding the bus or entering school facilities.
