Enders Road Elementary School students will finish the school day today, Nov. 12, at Eagle Hill Middle School after a nearby gas leak prompted a shutdown of Enders’ heating system.
This morning, one of Enders’ exterior natural gas lines was inadvertently ruptured during nearby construction work and, as a precaution, some of the third and fourth grade classrooms were evacuated to another part of the school. Local fire department personnel cleared the building for gas presence, but some of the school’s utilities, including its heating system, will remain turned off until the line is repaired.
Contractors are working to repair the line so that Enders can reopen tomorrow.
Following students’ lunch periods, Enders Road students and staff will walk to Eagle Hill Middle School where they will stay for the remainder of the school day and participate in an alternative educational activity.
Dismissal time for Enders Road students will not be affected. Parent pick-up will take place at its normal time and in its normal location, the Enders cafeteria. Bus dismissal will take place in the Eagle Hill bus loop.
There will be no after-school or evening activities today for Enders Road students.
