F-M community mourns loss of student

The Fayetteville-Manlius School District is mourning the loss of student Jena Sayed, who passed away on May 9 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Jena was a member of the F-M High School Class of 2023. She played on the junior varsity tennis team and participated in the Refugee Outreach Club Association. She was also a very talented artist who earned prestigious honors in the Scholastic Art Awards and loved her time at F-M, according to F-M High School Principal Dr. Raymond Kilmer.

“Our deepest condolences and prayers are with Jena’s family, friends and the school community during this difficult time,” Kilmer said.

A schoolwide moment of silence to honor Jena’s life was observed by F-M High School students on May 10.

“As the school community processes this tragic news and copes with losing a member of the F-M family, we will offer counseling and bereavement support services to our students and staff,” F-M Superintendent Dr. Craig J. Tice said.

To help students process their feelings during this time of sorrow, Kilmer is encouraging students to utilize the school’s support services, including bereavement support. He also emailed grief support resources to families.
