Mark your calendars: A national graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 will be taking place at 8 p.m. May 16 and will provide Fayetteville-Manlius School District seniors an opportunity to celebrate with their families and peers near and far.
The Council of Chief State School Officers is partnering with XQ Institute on Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020, a one-hour primetime show paying tribute to high school seniors, their teachers and their families.
The commercial-free special will air on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC and stream on multiple online platforms, such as Complex Networks, Facebook, Instagram, PEOPLE, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube.
During the show, high school seniors and other viewers will be invited to visit the national Graduate Together website and click on their states to see specialized content for their graduating class. Students may also submit to the website photos, videos and speeches for a chance to be featured on the show.
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) submitted several stories about New York state students that may be featured on the telecast, and additional stories about the Class of 2020 will be featured on NYSED’s forthcoming Graduation 2020 web page, on social media platforms and in newsletters.
Central New York begins to reopen; district tennis courts open
While Gov. Andrew Cuomo on May 14 extended the “New York on PAUSE” executive order through May 28, the state has given the Central New York Region approval to begin the reopening process.
As such, the district will reopen its tennis courts for public use as of Saturday, May 16.
Members of the community are welcome to use the courts at F-M High School and Eagle Hill Middle School. The Wellwood Middle School tennis courts have been taken offline due to construction taking place there as the final portion of the 2017 voter-approved capital project.
The district’s other outdoor facilities, including the track and turf field, remain closed for now.
The district will continue to provide frequent news and informational updates on the district website; however, with the region beginning to reopen, website articles will only be labeled as COVID-19 updates if there is information to share related to the pandemic.
Chamber Orchestra shares virtual performance
The F-M High School music department is continuing to stay connected to its students despite the school building being closed. The department recently released another virtual student performance featuring members of the F-M High School Chamber Orchestra performing “Yesterday” by the Beatles.
