Eagle Hill students donate more than 100 loaves of bread to the Syracuse Rescue Mission

Eagle Hill fifth and sixth graders combined math, science, and reading all while putting their baking skills to the test! The students participated in King Arthur Baking Company’s Bake For Good program, which encourages students to share baked goods as an act of kindness.Eagle Hill students hold up fresh-baked loaves of bread.

Students began the process by watching a live bread baking demonstration via Zoom. They were then sent home with a baking kit, which provided them with enough supplies to bake two loaves of bread – one to enjoy with their family and one to bring back to school to be donated.

Bread kits were sent home with students over a weekend to give them time to bake. On Monday, May 12, students returned 167 loaves of freshly-made bread. Students and staff brought those loaves to the Syracuse Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization that serves over 400 meals to those in need every day.

Those who weren’t able to bake their bread in time for the donation are encouraged to do so when it’s convenient, and still donate a loaf to a food pantry, soup kitchen, or as an act of kindness to someone they know.
