Senior receives recognition for his film, “Mandu”

F-M senior David Palmer is receiving recognition for his original film, “Mandu.” In October, David was invited to attend the American High School Student Film Festival in New York City. There, he had the chance to network with collegiate professionals, attend workshops with industry professionals, and check out fellow students’ work from across the country. “Mandu” tells the story of a young man grappling with mistreatment due to his personal cultural identity. David’s creation was accepted among hundreds of other submissions in the most competitive category within the festival: short fiction.

David said the highlight of the trip was seeing his film on the big screen at the AMC Empire Theatre in Times Square. Along with that accomplishment, David’s invitation to the film festival also included a ticket to attend the Teen Indie Awards in Brooklyn.

This isn’t the first time David has been recognized for his film. “Mandu” was also named Best Original Drama at the Central New York High School Film Festival, was awarded a Gold Key honor at the Scholastic Art Awards, and won an Award of Distinction at the Cayuga Film Festival.
