Dear F-M Parents/Guardians,
We thank you for being our valued partners as we work together to educate your children in our district. As you may know, building life skills and supporting student mental health and wellness is an important part of the work we do with students every day. We believe student voice plays a powerful role in helping our schools create engaging educational experiences for students. To this end, we will be asking students in grades 3-12 to reflect on their own mindsets and skills via an online survey at school. The survey will be administered to students prior to winter break in December, and again in the spring. This confidential survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete. In grades K-4, teachers will complete a teacher perception survey that aligns to the student surveys administered during the school day at the higher grade levels.
Some sample questions include:
Elementary School
- Do you have a friend from school who you can count on to help you, no matter what?
- When things go wrong for you, how often are you able to stay calm? (Not calm at all, a little calm, somewhat calm, very calm, extremely calm)
Middle School
- Do you have an adult at school who you can count on to help you, no matter what?
- During the past two weeks, how clearly were you able to describe your feelings? (Not at all clearly, a little clearly, somewhat clearly, very clearly, extremely clearly)
High School
- When you are at school, how much do you feel like you belong? (Do not belong at all, Belong a little bit, Belong somewhat, Mostly belong, Completely belong)
- On average, how much sleep are you getting on an average night (Less than 5 hours, 6-7 hours, 8-9 hours, more than 10 hours)
To learn more about the student survey and see the full list of potential questions, please review the Panorama Student Survey User Guide. Each time we survey students, only a small selection of available questions from the guide will be asked.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to better meet their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information or doesn’t want to answer a question, they can skip the item. If you prefer your student(s) do not participate in the surveys, please notify your student’s principal by Wednesday, Dec. 3.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s school counselor.
Sincerely,
Craig J. Tice
Superintendent
