Board members elect two vice presidents

The Fayetteville-Manlius School District Board of Education elected two vice presidents to temporarily fill the vacancy due to the passing of former board vice president Sharon Lindars.

At its Jan. 22 meeting, board members voted unanimously to elect Daryll Fitch Wheeler as first vice president and Sarah Fitzgerald as second vice president. They will each serve in their respective roles through June 30, 2024.

Electing a first and second vice president is not unprecedented. The role of first vice president includes carrying out the duties of the president in their absence and to act as president in the event of a vacancy until a new president is elected.

The role of the second vice president includes carrying out the duties of the first vice president in their absence and to act as president or first vice president in the event of a vacancy until a new president or vice president is elected to the respective position.

During the board’s annual re-organizational meeting in July 2024, board members will elect a president and vice president(s) to serve during the 2024-25 school year. The positions are one-year terms.
