Building a culture of innovation and inquiry

The Fayetteville-Manlius School District is committed to inspiring students and promoting personal success. There are a number of facets to its strategic plan that support that vision, including a focus on teaching and learning.

One of the district’s goals under this priority area is to expand course offerings, units of study and learning opportunities that promote student engagement and allow for student voice and choice.

For the 2019-20 school year, staff members are introducing activities that are geared toward re-imagining student learning and establishing a culture of innovation and inquiry at the elementary level that develops self-directed and engaged learners.

The district created the video below that highlights such activities at Mott Road Elementary School to share with its peers in the Innovation and Transformational Leadership Network, a collaborative of select superintendents and members of their leadership teams who have been studying the strategic planning process and promoting innovation within their district-wide plans.

The collaborative is supported by the AASA, The School Superintendents Association, and the New York state-based Successful Practices Network. F-M joined the group in October 2018.
