District reminds students to dress for winter weather

As an Arctic front slides across the country this week, Fayetteville-Manlius School District officials are encouraging parents and guardians to make sure students are dressing appropriately for the weather conditions.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a regional wind chill watch for Jan. 4-6, warning of dangerously low wind chills, very cold temperatures and lake effect snow.

Such cold temperatures pose an elevated risk of frostbite and hypothermia. The Weather Service advises those who are outdoors during such conditions to wear several layers of loose-fitting clothing, a wind-resistant and water-repellent outer layer, mittens or gloves that are snug at the wrist, waterproof boots, a scarf or face mask, and a warm hat.

F-M staff members will take temperatures into consideration when making decisions about outdoor activities throughout the week, including recess.
