Board Game & Puzzle Club

Thursdays, Mrs. Scott, Library

Do you like Clue, Scattergories, and Chutes and Ladders?  Would you like to relax and play with friends each week? Then come and join Board Game & Puzzle Club in the Library on Thursday afternoons! 

CHORUS

Wednesdays, Mrs. Koch, Room 319

This chorus is for any interested grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 students who love to sing.  No audition needed, just a love of singing fun music.

CODING CLUB

Thursdays, Mrs. Winje, Room 122 

Open to all grade levels.  We will be learning block coding with Spheros as well as coding on the TI-Nspire and other coding platforms. 

Cross Training Camp

Wednesdays, Ms. Peelle, Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8

This activity is for any student looking to be active through a variety of fitness activities that range from running, use of the fitness center, crossfit, and HIIT (high intensity interval training).  At times we may meet outside or in the gymnasium.

Debate Team

Mondays, Ms. Lonergan, Room 117

Debate Team is open to 7th and 8th graders who want to discuss important topics, learn effective argumentation and public speaking skills, and collegially argue among themselves.

Engineering Club

Mondays, Mr. Six and Mr. Levy, Grade 8, Room 325

Students will design and build a bridge in order to participate in the MOST’s Build ’Em and Bust ’Em bridge competition.

German Club

Grade 6 –Selected Mondays, Mr. Ernst, Room 116

Are you a fan of the German language? Have you been thinking about choosing to study German in grade 7?  This club is for grade 6 students who have a strong interest in learning the German language.  We will meet about two times a month for fun activities involving speaking, listening to and singing in German.  Some cooking activities are also planned.  Listen for announcements about when and where to sign up.

GUITAR/UKULELE/RECORDER CLUB

Tuesdays, except for faculty meeting days, Mrs. Koch and Mrs. Weber, Room 318 & 319

The club is open to any interested students in grades 5-8 who want to learn how to play an instrument.  Students will learn chords to accompany songs on guitar (Mrs. Koch), ukulele (Mrs. Weber), and notes to play song melodies on recorder (Mrs. Weber). The guitar portion will run from Sept. 17 to Nov. 19; ukulele from Dec. 10 to March 10, and recorder March 17 to May 26.  Students of all playing abilities are welcome in this club.

Harry Potter Club

Thursdays, Mrs. Aldrich, Room 109

Open to all grades, Harry Potter Club is a place where fans of the books and movies can come together.  Crafts, baking, movie marathons, and even a sorting ceremony will happen throughout the year.

Historical Fiction Book Club

Thursdays, Mrs. Stephens, Room 110  

Over the course of the year we will read at least four historical fiction books, Skype with authors, and engage in great discussions of this educational genre.  Snacks will be provided. We will not be meeting every week.  Limited to 15 grades 7 and 8 students.

Hornets Nest Club

Thursdays, Mrs. Brenner, Room 311

Open to all grades. Come be a part of the school store club. Learn about the world of retail by helping to order, unpack, price and display items. Students will also help determine how profit from the store will be used.

Jazz Improv

Thursdays, Mr. Rossi, Room 317

Jazz Improv is a fun and exciting way to get better at your jazz skills and make music with your friends. One of the most expressive and liberating things in music, Improv is open to all instruments including rhythm section (piano, bass, drums, guitar).  We will learn the basic head-solos-head form of jazz combo playing along with some basic theory and ear training as we play along with real and recorded instruments.

Magic The Gathering Club

Wednesdays, Mr. Six and Mr. Levy, Room 325

Strategy card game open to students in all grades.  Strategy card game that encourages problem solving.  Students do not need to bring their own cards (unless they want to).

Math League

Selected Tuesdays, Mrs. Albicker, Mr. DeBlois, Miss Pomeroy & Mrs. Winje, room assignment will vary, Grades 7 & 8

Students can join the 7th and 8th grade math teachers for math enrichment and challenging math activities. Practice for the county math league will occur during this time as well.

“MELODIES!”

This chorus is open to all students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 who love to sing. We typically prepare a medley of songs from a Broadway show to perform in concert. Join us to help select the Broadway show music you would like to sing!  No audition needed, just a love of singing and fun!

OUTDOORS CLUB

Wednesdays, Mrs. Schultz, Room 205

Open to students in grades 5-8.  Spend time outdoors each week while doing fun, seasonal activities and working to help the planet.

Pride Club

Thursdays, Mrs. Asztalos & Mrs. Baickle, Rooms 305/120

Open to all grades. Join our club to help develop a building-wide environment of kindness and acceptance, create new friendships, practice leadership, and support the community through fundraising efforts, such as the annual FM Pantry Food Drive.  Listen to the announcements for meeting dates.  Snacks will be provided!

Rubik’s Cube Club

Monday, Mrs. Bowers, Room 309, open to all grades

Come join an exciting club where students can learn the theories and patterns of the Rubik’s cube. Practice solving these fun puzzles with friends!

Science Olympiad

Open to grades 7 & 8 to try out for selection

A team will be selected following tryouts.  The opportunity exists to engage in scholastic competition with neighboring school districts.  Days and times to be determined.

Ski & Snowboard Club

Information during October; club begins in January,  Tuesdays, grades 5 and 6; Wednesdays, grades 7 and 8, Mrs. Robinso, at Toggenburg

Membership fee includes lift ticket, ski or snowboard lesson, and bus transportation to and from Toggenburg for six nights. Bus leaves school at 3 p.m. and returns at 8 p.m.

Spotlight Activity

Activity to be determined. The activity may be announced the Friday before. Activities may be weekly or monthly.

S.T.E.M. CLUB

Tuesdays, room 106, Mrs. Wojnovich and Ms. Rose

Students will explore, create, manipulate and experiment while improving their problem-solving and critical thinking.

Wellness Wednesday

Mrs. Gillette and Mrs. McAndrew, Room 208

Listen to the announcements on Monday to hear the week’s upcoming activity. We will focus on fun wellness activities designed to reduce stress, anxiety, and promote an overall balanced, healthy lifestyle. Activities will include but are not limited to coloring, nature walks, yoga, preparing healthy snacks, volunteering, crafting, meditation, and much more! All students in grades 5-8 are welcome!

Yearbook Club

Two Thursdays a month, to be announced, Mrs. Murphy-McCarthy and Mr. Maloney, Room 202, Computer Lab
