F-M celebrates 144 Scholastic Art Awards

Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District students were recently recognized with a total of 144 awards in the 2024 Central New York Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. The Scholastic Art Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for teens in grades 7-12.

F-M students earned 43 Gold Key Awards (37 at the high school), 41 Silver Key Awards (34 at the high school), and 60 Honorable Mentions (46 at the high school). FMHS seniors also received 6 Portfolio awards; the most of any school district in the region. Those portfolio awards include 2 Gold Portfolios; the only district in the region with this distinction. F-M High School received the most awards of any high school this year with 117, and the district won the most distinctions of any in the region in Fine Arts.

The Central New York Region includes 13 counties and nearly 400 eligible schools. Judges evaluate entries for their originality, technical skill and the emergence of personal voice or vision, according to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards website

Works that earned a Gold Key Award are automatically considered for national awards. If you’d like to see student art on display, you can head to Onondaga Community College, where a display is open to the public seven days a week. The hours are: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
