A Fayetteville-Manlius School District music teacher is the recipient of an award honoring local music educators who are dedicated to sustaining the performing arts and who have had a strong positive influence on their students. WCNY Classic FM chose Amy Cirmo for the honor. She teaches music at Fayetteville Elementary School and Wellwood Middle School.
Administrators, staff, and WCNY Classic FM representatives surprised Mrs. Cirmo with the news on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Wellwood Middle School.
“Mrs. Cirmo received three nominations from her colleagues for this award,” said WCNY Classic FM Program Manager Diane Jones, who presented Mrs. Cirmo with a special plaque. “They told us Mrs. Cirmo is welcoming, passionate and her enthusiasm for her students and music has opened a world of beautiful music for so many. She welcomes all students into the F-M strings program and they are celebrated.”
As a recipient of the Music Educator Award, Mrs. Cirmo will have the opportunity to bring an ensemble to the WCNY Studios in Syracuse to record a brief performance, which will air on Classic FM.
“We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Cirmo as a part of our music program at F-M,” said Wellwood Principal Trish Fogarty. “This award is a testament to her dedication to fostering a love of music in our students and providing them with high quality music instruction.”
The Music Educator Award was launched in 2022 to celebrate the station’s 50th anniversary. A WCNY committee reviews nominations and will select a new honoree at least monthly. F-M’s K-12 District Coordinator of Music Shawn Hebert received the honor during the 2022-23 school year.
