F-M student receives first ever Seal of Triliteracy

Senior Elliot McDaniel is celebrating a major accomplishment, as he becomes the first F-M student to earn a Seal of Triliteracy.

An FMHS student and two teachers smile.
Elliot McDaniel, seen here with AP German teacher Frau Stewart and AP Spanish teacher Pam Mitchell, earned the first ever Seal of Triliteracy.

To earn a Seal of Biliteracy, students must demonstrate advanced proficiency in English and at least one other world language. On its website, the NYS Education Department explains the intent of the Seal of Biliteracy is to encourage the study of languages, help make this skill identifiable to future employers, and provide universities with more information about students seeking admission.

Through successful regents testing, coursework, and presentations judged by area language teachers and community members, Elliot has proven proficiency in English, Spanish, and German, earning him the “triliteracy” title. Elliot will be presented with the seal on his diploma and will be given a medallion to wear at graduation.

A huge Congratulations to Elliot on this multilingual success!
