F-M students compete in FIRST LEGO League competition

The Eagle Hill Stingers and Wellwood RoboHornets recently competed in OCM BOCES’ FIRST LEGO League competition held at Roxboro Road Middle School. They were among 270 students representing 27 teams and 12 school districts.

Students in grades 4-8 designed, built, and coded their own LEGO robots, then cheered them on as they tackled a series of tasks on the competition stage. This year’s theme, “Unearthed,” challenged teams to take on archaeology-inspired missions. Robots needed to push, pull, and lift objects on a themed game board, all within a set time limit.

Teams also showcased “Innovation Projects” to a panel of judges. These presentations challenged students to dream up creative solutions to real-world problems faced by archaeologists.

The top five teams are moving on to the regional finals in Buffalo which are scheduled to take place in February. While neither F-M team advanced this year, Computer Resource Teacher Steve Carbone says the teams continue to improve and they hope to return to regionals next year.

Great job Hornets!
