Police deem Instagram post as non-credible threat

Manlius police have deemed an Instagram post shared by an Eagle Hill Middle School student as a non-credible threat.

A report was called into 911 at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, that a student posted a meme on Instagram that stated “Don’t come to school tmrw” followed by a series of emojis. The image that was copied and pasted from an Instagram account, which appears to not be local, did not mention a specific school or district.

Manlius police were notified, and the Eagle Hill school resource officer, who is a Manlius police officer, immediately began investigating and contacted the student who posted the image. It was determined that the image was a non-credible threat. As such, police notified school officials of the Instagram post at about 7:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4.

The 911 call was prompted from Eagle Hill students who saw the Instagram post and notified their families.

“We commend our students for taking immediate steps to notify their parents after seeing the Instagram post,” Superintendent Craig J. Tice said. “We always encourage our students if they see something, to say something, and we are proud that they did so.”
