Fayetteville-Manlius students recently competed against teams from across Central New York in the Regional Battle of the Books tournament, with two F-M teams earning spots in the upcoming Super Regional competitions.
The Book Swimmers, representing grades 3 and 4 from Enders Road Elementary School, and Process of Elimination, representing grades 9–12 from Fayetteville-Manlius High School, both advanced after finishing in first place in the regional round.

Battle of the Books is a reading competition organized by the OCM BOCES School Library Systems. The program encourages a love of reading while helping students strengthen reading comprehension, teamwork and academic skills.
Throughout the school year, student teams read and study a set of eight selected books. Teams then compete in building and district-level trivia-style battles, answering Jeopardy-like questions that test their knowledge of the books. The highest-scoring teams advance to regional and super regional competitions.
Several Fayetteville-Manlius teams placed in this year’s regional competition:
- Grades 3 & 4: Enders Road Elementary School, Book Swimmers advance to Super Regionals
- Grades 5 & 6: Slay Queen 101, 2nd place; The Refrigerators, 8th place
- Grades 7 & 8: Abnormal Humans, 3rd place
- Grades 9–12: F-M High School, Process of Elimination advance to Super Regionals
The Super Regional competitions will take place Wednesday, March 11 for grades 3 and 4 and March 16 for grades 9 through 12.
Fayetteville-Manlius congratulates all of the student readers who participated and wishes the advancing teams the best of luck at Super Regionals.
