Board elects president and vice president and sets vision for 2026-27 school year

The Fayetteville-Manlius School District Board of Education elected a new president and vice president for the 2026-27 school year during the board’s annual re-organizational meeting on July 6. Board members elected Sarah Fitzgerald to serve as president and Kristen Purcell to serve as vice president. The positions are one-year terms.

Elizabeth Mossovitz and Robert Spencer took the oath of office for their respective positions prior to the board meeting. In May, district residents elected Mrs. Mossovitz and Mr. Spencer to their first term which began July 1.

In addition to the elected members, the board includes a non-voting student member. At the end of the 2025-26 school year, F-M High School students elected Chase Jaconski to serve as the student board member. The student, who serves a one-year term, attends all public board meetings and is allowed to participate in all public discussions. The student board member also shares feedback and information from the student body directly with the board at each regular board meeting. Mr. Jaconski also took his oath of office at the July 6 re-organizational meeting.

President Fitzgerald’s standing report reaffirmed that the board’s oath of office commits its members to acting in the best interest of the District. Fitzgerald encouraged each board member to consider their motivation in serving during the coming year. Fitzgerald stated that “In order to support a strong Fayetteville-Manlius School District, we must also be a strong and effective Board – one whose members can be trusted to act ethically, responsibly, and with students at the center of every decision. Our success is not measured by scorekeeping…It is measured by the success of our students and by the opportunities they have when they walk across the stage at graduation, prepared for whatever they choose next in their journey.”
