Letter to F-M community from Superintendent Tice; vigil rescheduled for March 29

Update – March 28: Due to inclement weather, the candlelight vigil has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at the F-M High School athletic stadium.

Dear F-M Families, Staff, and Community,

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I confirm that the greater F-M High School community lost sophomore Jay Lu who passed away over the weekend.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Jay’s family and friends during this difficult time.

The F-M High School Crisis Team has been activated and is also providing support for students and staff beginning today, Sunday, March 27, and throughout the days, weeks and months ahead.  The entire governance team from the F-M Board of Education to the administration appreciates the community’s outpouring of support and suggestions.  While there will be time to listen and dialogue in the not-too-distant future, our primary focus is dedicated to providing immediate support for the grieving process.

Additional support will be provided throughout the school district beginning tomorrow Monday, March 28, 2022. Students and staff members will receive more information about counseling services tomorrow morning during their homeroom class. Families can also reach out to their child’s school counselor.

A candlelight vigil is planned for 7 p.m. tomorrow at the F-M High School Stadium. All students, staff and community members are welcome to attend.

Sincerely,

Craig Tice
