Wellwood and Eagle Hill middle school sixth-grade students recently completed a project in which they demonstrated their research, creativity, communication and media production skills.
The Sixth Grade Changemaker Podcast Project asked students to select local, national and world issues that interested or concerned them and to identify “changemakers” that have roles in those issues. The students researched their topics and the changemakers and from there composed podcast scripts. They then recorded and edited podcast episodes to be shared with their teams of students and teachers.
Students worked under the guidance of their sixth grade teachers, Wellwood Enrichment Teacher Jeni Leslie, Eagle Hill Enrichment Teacher Bridget Wojnovich and Instructional Technology Teacher Steve Carbone to complete the project.
Several podcasts were selected to be featured in a special community radio broadcast on Syracuse Spark Radio, which provides an opportunity to showcase the students’ hard work and voices to the greater Syracuse area.
