Varsity teams earn scholar-athlete recognition

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) recently recognized several Fayetteville-Manlius School District athletic teams as part of its fall Scholar-Athlete program.

At the end of each sports season, NYSPHSAA recognizes student-athletes and teams that have achieved academic success. To receive NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete team recognition, 75 percent of students on a team’s roster must earn a grade point average (GPA) of 90 or above.

In January, NYSPHSAA announced that all 14 of F-M’s fall 2019 varsity athletic teams earned the Scholar-Athlete designation. Of the 282 student-athletes who participated on these teams, 245 of them – or 86.9% – achieved a GPA of 90 or more.

F-M’s fall varsity teams and averages include:

  • Girls tennis – 95.76
  • Girls swimming and diving – 94.82
  • Girls soccer – 94.80
  • Boys golf – white team – 94.65
  • Field hockey – 94.17
  • Girls cross country – 94.08
  • Boys golf – green team – 93.77
  • Cheerleading – 93.37

  • Boys cross country – 92.68
  • Boys volleyball – 92.09
