Fayetteville-Manlius Latin Program Earns Statewide Recognition

two people pose with the award

The Fayetteville-Manlius Latin program received the June U. Stillwell Outstanding New York State Latin Program Award from the Classical Association of the Empire State (CAES) on Friday, Oct. 16.

The presentation took place during the association’s annual conference at Siena University in the Albany area.

The award recognizes a New York State Latin program of “special merit.” Applications are reviewed by a statewide committee with representatives from classical studies organizations. The district previously received the award in 2000.

The district’s Latin program combines language study with exploration of ancient Roman life and culture. Students develop reading and translation skills while learning about Latin’s influence on English vocabulary. Coursework also explores Roman history and mythology, with advanced students interpreting original Latin literature. Students can continue their studies through Advanced Placement Latin.

Congratulations to Latin teachers Dr. Jim Hunt and Carrie Tyler and the entire Latin program on this statewide honor!
