Elementary students at Mott Road were recently challenged to explore new topics and ideas. The project was developed by the school’s Site-Based Team, which is composed of teachers, parents, administrative assistants, and administrators.
“This year, we have focused on creating opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom while engaging their families,” shared Assistant Principal Tom Cheevers.
As part of this work, the school hosted a K-4 Science Fair on April 29. Students presented a hands-on experiment, invention, or research project, either individually or in groups.
Students needed to develop a claim, gather evidence to support or challenge it, and record their observations. They also practiced their research skills as they collected information.
“It was so great getting to see students confidently explain their projects to peers, families, and community members during the Science Fair Showcase,” added Cheevers.
The science fair was a success, with more than 50 students participating! All participants were recognized with a certificate of achievement.
