F-M students explore, engage, and learn at Micron Day

Some F-M High School students recently participated in Micron Day hosted by Syracuse University. Hundreds of local students in grades 9-12 filled Ensley Athletic Center on Thursday, April 21. The event featured technology, education, and career opportunities.

A main highlight was a technology expo with hands-on STEM exhibits. Members of F-M’s Robotics Club were able to showcase how robots move, engage, and teach.

“The Robotics Club was center stage and was both visually and audibly one of the most popular stations as attendees could hear the pop of balloons and laughter,” shared business teacher Patricia Stokes.

The objective was to pop a balloon driven by attendees with a robot. Another team’s robot navigated an obstacle course with the help of a student or attendee controlling movements.

The event also encouraged students to explore college and career opportunities. This was especially interesting for F-M High School Entrepreneurship students. They also enjoyed booths showcasing different innovations, including robotic dogs.

The most commonly overheard reflection from the day was, “that was so much fun!” One Entrepreneurship student commented about how, “we got to hear pitches about new ideas from each station.”

The event concluded with a community town hall and esports competition between Syracuse University and Boise State. This was the second Micron Day hosted by the campus.
