Over the past several months, Mott Road Elementary third graders have come together to explore meaningful topics that help strengthen their school community. They’re participating in the Kindness Club, organized by School Counselor Makenzie Keeler.
The club focuses on building trust, understanding personal identities, fostering a sense of belonging, and having thoughtful conversations. It also empowers students through open dialogue and discussion, giving them a space to share their thoughts, listen to others, and practice empathy and kindness.
“These are skills they are using, not only with peers in their grade, but also as members of our larger school and community,” shared Keeler. “Throughout our time together, students have shown empathy, respect, and a genuine willingness to learn from one another. We have worked on what it means to create a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and included.”
The students are putting what they’ve learned into action by creating a series of posters that will be displayed throughout the school. The messages promote kindness and reflect the ideas discussed during club meetings.
“It is a powerful way for students to share their voices and help spread positivity throughout Mott Road,” added Keeler.
